Unit 12

 

Unit 12 comes towards the end of the SoundWorks course. The move to these difficult spelling patterns is quite easy for children now that they have a firm understanding of how our writing system works.

Pages 200-210 and 213-215 of the Handbook are shown below, together with the relevant teaching materials.

Notice again that -

  • The underlying theory and the necessary terminology are explained beforehand, in this case: digraphs and suffixes
  • The teaching activities are extremely easy to do and have been designed to make the lessons practical and interesting
  • The children work with concrete materials that can be handled and discussed - this helps make these difficult new ideas more manageable
